  • I’ve used huge trucks for bush work. Like we’re talking going mudding just to get to work. This line of work basically put me in the position that is the subject of commercials that try to convince suburban dads that they need a huge truck in case one day their family goes on a fictional camping trip to the middle of a swamp.

Anyways, you know what I learned? These fucking things suck at off-roading.

    • They have shit visibility. You sometimes need to get out of the truck to see around corners, especially if you’re cresting steep hills
    • They have a dangerously high center of gravity (I saw a bunch of coworkers roll theirs) that is only amplified if you carry large loads in their truck beds
    • Over-complicated features like traction control will actually kill your power if you’re doing some technical driving, which will make you get stuck when you don’t need to

There’s no good reason for these pieces of shit to exist.

A lot of Americans do actually support some gun control measures. A lot of Americans also don’t actually know how insanely hard and effectively the NRA has organized and opposed any remotely reasonable gun control measure. They basically ensure that any hearing on the subject is flooded by their members to oppose it. They just go and many sane Americans don’t.

I’m not American, but I actually support sane firearm ownership. I look at the lunacy over there and I am almost shocked. I really do think, from hearing about this as much as I do, that many Americans support sane measures. But the NRA is a huge problem. It prevents people from even being educated on this issue.

  • That is actually not true. Not downplaying the significance of these effects, but…

In the 60s and 70s a large number of planned parenthood clinics were in low-income and predominantly black neighbourhoods, aimed at reducing the number of black babies.

In the same era birth control (more appropriately termed eugenics) programs forcibly sterilized black and indigenous women. Where it was presented as an option, the consequence for not following through on these doctor’s “recommendations,” were threats to withhold healthcare or public assistance. The statistics through the 60s and 70s were that roughly 1 in 4 indigenous women were non-consenually sterilized.

But also, yeah, the results of this trial are fucked and people are right to be skeptical of this drug.

  • Fuck leaf blowers. I don’t care if they’re quieter. The term here is “polishing a turd.” They don’t really solve any problems. They’re not good at removing debris, but just blowing it to a place where someone else will deal with it.

Also… removing debris on its own is a dubious pursuit, since “debris” could also be termed “stuff that holds moisture longer and slows the effect of drying soil during drought conditions.”

This isn’t actually a real issue. Your language preference isn’t the same as someone pushing you to change your own pronouns.

Thanks for being receptive to treating people with decency (I mean that), but this conflict you are perceiving isn’t actually a thing. Unisex and gender neutral in this context mean the same thing – this is just the more commonly used term in this era, but that’s just because patterns of language usage have changed.
