  • I’ve used expo, which is really just react native with some helpful tooling around it. It was my first real project with react as well, and all and all I’d recommend it.

React native is pretty great, but there’s a steep learning curve. Expo has some bugs, and once you get off the beaten path you might have some issues. You always have the option of ejecting to react native or native code, but the expo app is incredible - you can do live updates remotely, the app will just reload with the changes without rebuilding everything

I’ll probably use it for most apps moving forward

  • NASA doesn’t have effective control of their budget anymore. Congress holds the purse strings and uses them like a harness

NASA gets funding to do something - like go to the moon, or track CO2 emissions. But it comes with strings - sometimes you have to build a certain component in a certain congressional district, sometimes Congress chooses the design you have to use

It’s a problem of politics and corruption. When the public supports NASA, they have more autonomy. When NASA gets a blank check, they do more with it - reusable rockets aren’t a new idea, and when they cancelled the shuttle program NASA had brain drain. Some of those people founded spaceX - Elon didn’t start it, he came in when they were getting off the ground, just like with Tesla

  • That’s not what arbitration is. This doesn’t stop valve from reaching a settlement, it stops them from using fake privately funded bench trials

Binding arbitration means the results are legally binding, non-binding arbitration means a judge needs to approve the arbitration results before it’s final. Sometimes it’s with an off duty judge, sometimes anyone can be the arbiter

Regardless, on one side you have a repeat customer, on the other you have someone who will probably never be back - there’s a built in conflict of interest

  • I read the Bible as a child, because I believed what l was taught.

Now, Jesus is my one and only role model - Jesus sacrificed his life to spread a message that is only more valid 2k years later

Jesus was the shit. He’s my only hero - everyone else I’ve ever looked up to let me down… Jesus died so he would never be the villain.

He never needed to be magic - he was just in harmony with the creator. Be was in harmony with existence lol. His every appearance was to deliver a message

His message was bastardized. Read the new testament - without the assumption of magic. Read it for yourself - as a child, I got through it all on the toilet. - and I read it cover to cover, you can read the new testament in few hours

  • The way I see it, it’s just a form of therapy. People don’t walk in and sit silently, they talk about their problems and get vague reassurance that everything is going to be alright - or occasional advice when they’re way out of bounds

I don’t think it’s unethical to do that, so long as you operate in good faith with good intentions

No, it has a recurring theme of transformation. You could read the first part as a trans allegory, but you could squint and do the same for Star wars or Harry Potter. It’s the story of the chosen one

Not everything written by a trans person is a trans allegory. Trans people can tell other stories…a trans allegory is about that specific personal journey, not just influenced by it

Also, every other week we get another reason to make it a priority

The arguments against it boil down to “it’s different and scary/I don’t understand it”, “there’s compatibility issues that might be complicated to fix”, or “well what we have now is good enough for my needs”

  • I don’t disagree with that position… As a next step, it seems pretty sensible to me

To truly understand where you stand, you have to break false dichotomy - political platforms aren’t one or two dimensional, they’re multifaceted. IMO you have to pick an end goal, and chart a course towards it

Personally, my end goal is solar punk. I want to live in a green world with technology. To get there, I full throatedly resist authoritarianism or centralization of any kind- I believe the larger it is, the more it’ll attract sociopaths seeking power for powers sake

Eco socialism is a step in my desired direction - I have no issue with it. It’s a sensible waypoint and I’d gladly join hands with those who see it as the end goal. But I’d encourage you to chat with gpt (or better yet, local AI) in the context of your end goal and the next step to get there - LLMs are an extension of the user, and I think this is a proper use of the technology
