I can report that the HP ENVY X360 15-eu0013ca has a Wacom display and pen and it works perfectly under Linux.
Yay go Alice!
…need your mom for anything?
It’s a libre implementation of RDP. Regardless of who pioneered it, it’s still open-source software, and Microsoft needs to keep RDP backwards compatible so it’s unlikely they’ll break it.
Worst case, FreeRDP can just go and do its own thing regardless of Microsoft
Ah yes, I see you too have watched a certain Michael MJD video
There’s actually a second player: Samsung
But aside from the two of them, yeah, closed. Basically the protocol the servers use to talk to each other is open, but whether they’ll want to talk to your server is undocumented and unlikely, and the protocols Google and Samsung use to talk from their servers to their respective apps are closed.
They do here in Montreal, I reported a compost bin abandoned in the middle of Decarie the other day and they sent the SQ.
They’re over 10 years old at this point, Windows 10 released in 2015, 9 years ago.
Unfortunately, yes, we are old!
I use a plumbing snake, works better
“bloat” = it has features I don’t like
It was broken almost everywhere a while ago in the way you are describing, it’s now pretty solid, but Canonical seriously screwed it up on 24.04 by breaking its dependencies so almost nothing works. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s broken on Debian too, especially since that’s likely an ancient version by now.
The software centre works on Fedora, but is completely broken on Ubuntu.
Most Lemmy servers have alternative interfaces btw
Definitely, he should try using Linux in a typical Microsoft-driven corporate environment with a regular laptop for a month and see how it is.
Microsoft is in bed with Canonical though, so Snaps are their preferred method of software delivery.
You do make a good point that there is a decent selection of proprietary software on Linux, but some of these are half-assed attempts (Discord, Zoom, Proton), and the vast majority of vendors are not thinking about Linux at all.
Vendors don’t give a shit about Linux.
