Apparently you can’t wear black rings or have tattoos of card suites either. Which is funny, considering black rings could also signify that you’re asexual.
I don’t think anybody knows.

I’m sure the average person is totally capable of doing that, or even knowing about it /s. Jfc.
Why is it that whenever a corporation loses or otherwise leaks sensitive user data that was their responsibility to keep private, all of Lemmy comes out to comment about how it’s the users who are idiots?
Except it’s never just about that. Every comment has to make it known that they would never allow that to happen to them because they’re super smart. It’s honestly one of the most self-righteous, tone deaf takes I see on here.
No, no one is fully ok with it. This entire thread is like the emperor’s new clothes or something.
And yet every other comment on this post is “just have confidence; change how you act and look and you’ll stop being rejected.”
It’s so silly to keep acting like attractiveness has zero to do with dating and likeability. Especially when there are permanent issues that are genetic or medical or whatever that go beyond “get a haircut and buy new clothes.” American society is super judgemental in general when it comes to appearance and aging (especially toward women), and identity. It gets much worse in the dating scene, especially now that it’s so frequently based on swiping left or right on a single photo and you’re competing with filters. Yes, there’s always the possibility of finding a group of people or a person that you fit in with, and you should always put work into finding that (if that’s something you want - not everyone wants to be paired off) but let’s stop throwing realism completely out the window ffs.

Would expect nothing less from an MA program.

The Canary Effect is an amazing documentary about the genocide of Indigenous peoples in North America. It is free on YT. It was where I first learned how brutal the reality was and how devastating to the population. It also shows how it meets the UN definition of genocide. Amazing how we are raised in the US and this is not only ignored in history class, but is instead framed as Indigenous people living happily in Spanish missions and having Thanksgiving with pilgrims.
If you get a chance to read about John Trudell, he had a fascinating life. He was the spokesman for the American Indian Movement when they occupied Alcatraz in protest of the US breaking their land treaty. The government did not stop terrorizing him and his family after that. There’s also an amazing documentary about him but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it. I think it may just be called “John Trudell.”
Both of these will make you walk away angry though.
I typed this whole comment about how and why sociology is a science, and realized they probably don’t give a shit.
