XMPP would be the best choice at this point in time, as it doesn’t suffer the downfalls of Matrix (though even Matrix would be better than Discord).

You will need to create a new account, but it is possible to export all of your subscriptions to a new account. There should be a thing you can click for that in your settings menu to download the export file, which you would then import into your new account.
Your old comments will not transfer, however.
Yarr, matey.
I’d recommend asking around lemmy.dbzer0.com, in the sailing community.
But it’d be easier to switch to Linux Mint, if you don’t have a critical windows app that doesn’t work in wine.
For anyone else reading this and thinking about trying linux for the first time, be sure to use Linux Mint. It will give you the smoothest and easiest experience, and you pretty much never need the terminal. It even comes with a really nice software store (but everything is free).
AFAIK, Grayjay is not a closed source app, the source is on github, but he chose a license that restricts monetization and redistribution due to having concerns of people taking FOSS apps and repackaging them on app stores with added monetization or malware.
Not ideal, but not closed either.
Gah! I wish so desperately that wasn’t the case, but I can’t dispute that. It really does feel like without investment in our rail network, there’s no good way of long distance travel, so it’s currently just a shit sandwich all around.
Sublinks and piefed don’t compete with lemmy, or at least, they don’t weaken the ecosystem since they are all inter compatible.
I hope that prompts more funding into Amtrak if people do opt for that!
That’s not great… I can only hope more people opt for trains instead this time.
Silver lining: less flights booked means less emissions for the environment.
What’s the situation with donating in your area? :)
I was only offering what I knew to be true for my area locally, I didn’t want to speak on things I hadn’t researched. Looking it up, I guess it seems like it’s possible (with varying degrees of waiting period), in a pretty significant chunk of the world, so that’s even better than I thought, if still not ideal. ^^
Gay people can donate blood now! (In the US, at least) :D
History tells us that 85% of these people will move to Windows 11 despite what they say.
The interesting rub this time is the hardware. There’s tons of still powerful and useful CPU’s in use today that don’t support Windows 11’s TPM 2.0, so I wonder if that will push a few more people to Linux than when Windows 7 was EOL.
Everyone loves to masterbate to how “bad these companies are”, dude you CHOSE them.
I think the point of the video is that there are backroom deals that secure Microsoft being chosen. The new mayor of Munich is a clear example of conflict of interest. Microsoft is clearly lobbying the French government as well.
The OG comment is referencing the body of this post, which are stats from the website. The website is using outdated steam stats, the comment is pointing that out.
The comment you replied to that was pointing that out was not corrolating the steam stats as general linux stats, only pointing out that the linux userbase on steam has grown since those outdated stats.
I think the original comment in this chain was mentioning that the stats from the statcounter website were using really outdated data for the percentage of Linux users on steam, I don’t think they were relating that stat to overall Linux usage.
They used c++ initially since it was spawned from SerenityOS, which was designed to be a mashup of win2000 and unix.
now that Ladybird is its own project, it’s not constrained to that goal, and they have said they will incorporate modern languages.
