Cloud infrastructure is great for this. You don’t need your own data center when you can just rent space on a farm. As a bonus, it’s less work for the IT team who no longer have to deal with server hardware upkeep.

Condos! Best of both worlds. Especially in a dense city, a standalone house isn’t really feasible when you can fit 8+ families into the same lot.

Meh fuck the commercial real estate market. Turn all the buildings into micro apartments or tear them down and install fields of solar panels.

Why the fuck would any office worker whose job is 100% on a computer need to be in an office? I don’t understand why companies want to pay for all of that electricity and real estate just to make people sit in cubicles.

$64k is a great salary in my area of PA. I’m not familiar with GA but I imagine it’s the same. To put this into comparison, the average household income in GA is $75k and most households are two earners, so yeah, seems pretty good.

Don’t forget AGILE. That should solve all of their problems, right?

I keep seeing this being shared, but I have no idea what it means. I know it’s similar to “Don’t tread on me”.

Pittsburgh is making great strides in this. They’ve been tearing down parking garages and building condos, forcing everyone to take public transportation. The light rail is even totally free, making it easy for everyone to get there.

I can’t imagine a scenario where a person who needs to work on a computer will not benefit by typing quickly and accurately.

That’s amazing! I’m able to sell up to 7 vacation days per year if I don’t use them, but it’s only my standard hourly rate.

IT manager of more than a decade here. Vacation days are earned. They’re part of your pay. If you’re not taking vacation days, you may as well be not cashing a paycheck. That’s unacceptable.

If several folks request off the same day I’ll gently ask if anyone is willing to swap. If they’re not willing or able, it’s OK. I’m paid more and I will work the overtime needed to cover them, because they earned it and it’s their time. Period. The company will survive a few days of less stellar work so that my guys and gals can live their life and work a job where they feel confident that they’re taken care of.

It depends highly on what you will be programming.
